PepsiCo Announces Shift to Plastic Pallets

Pepsico announced its plans to ditch wooden pallets from its supply chain in favor of plastic ones.

The new pallets, from Intelligent Global Pooling Systems, are 20-27 pounds lighter than their wood predecessors, and Pepsi claims the old or damaged units will be remolded into new ones.
Quaker and Gatorade pallets will be changed April 1 and Tropicana will make the change May 1.

I can't help but wonder, will the lighter packaging translate to cheaper prices to the consumer, or will we still feel like we're paying for a tuxedo every time the cashier rings up our drinks at the checkout line?
